USS Yorktown

Join Troop 20 for our January campout on the USS Yorktown “The Fighting Lady”. We will be spending 1 night on board the Yorktown and exploring all of the ships. A lunch, dinner, and breakfast is included in the overnight camping package. As part of the overnight package, all attendees will be participating in a group program called “Flight Academy” which is a flight combat simulator. ASM Brooks is leading a two part class for this Eagle required merit badge with the first class to be held on Monday, Jan. 13 from 5:45 to 7:00 at the Scout Hut. The second class will be Jan 27 same time and place. With both classes ,75% of the requirements can be completed in class with the Scouts completing the remainder on their own and submitting their work to ASM Brooks for approval. A number of scouts have signed up. He can accommodate more if you need this merit badge. To sign up please email him and provide name and contact info for either the scout or parent. SOS (Sign Offs at Six pm) @ Scout Hut

SOS sessions are for Scouts to get signed off on any requirements for all ranks thru First Class. The primary objective of these sign ups are for you to show/demonstrate rank requirements to a Scoutmaster, not for the Scoutmaster to teach them to you. T20 Mountain Bike Ride @ Rembert C Dennis Blvd, Moncks Corner, SC 29461

ASM Chad Neal & Peter Holmi will Lead another fun challenging Mountain Bike Ride. SIGNED PERMISSION SLIPS REQUIRED FOR ANY “SOLO” SCOUT RIDER WHOSE PARENT IS NOT ATTENDING. I can email Permission Slip to “Solo” Scouts who RSVP or email Meet @ Scout Hut 8:30AM, load/strap bikes on trailer & drive (1) hour to Biggin Creek Trail, Moncks Corner, SC (adjacent to Santee Cooper HQ. Cut & Paste web link for more info/Map/photos. Trail is a 4.7 mile single track rated INTERMEDIATE… good “Bail Outs” or Turnarounds for those that get tired/can’t make it; therefore, this is for Scouts that are fit enough to bike for 1.5-2 hours (with plenty of Breaks/rests). Trail not “difficult” but not suitable for Beginner Bike Rider who could/will get frustrated or worse, injured/hurt. Proper Mountain bike required (with Gears – no “Beach Cruisers”) + helmet. Leader Chad will tow large trailer capable of hauling all the Bikes but, depending on how many Riders we have, we need Adult Drivers. BRING PACKED LUNCH After Ride, we’ll eat Snack or “Lunch” in Parking Lot/Field before Loading & Returning to the Scout Hut @ approx. 1PM. This will count as (1) completed 5 mile Ride towards Cycling Merit Badge. Additional rides will be scheduled for Scouts interested. RIDE IS WEATHER DEPENDENT. If rain 1-2 days before Ride close Biggin Creek Trail we may select Alternate Trail/Location, push ride to Sunday AM, Feb. 2 OR have to Cancel……BE PREPARED & BE FLEXIBLE.
